Not only does Mediavine get ads onto your website, but they also do it in the best possible way.

🤑 How much I make on Mediavine: It varies from about $8,500-10,000 USD per month, with about 250,000 monthly page views and mostly U.S. traffic (U.S. traffic pays the most).

4 Mediavine Requirements

There’s more to getting into this ad management company than finally seeing that you meet Mediavine’s minimum traffic requirement, though that’s a good place to start.

1. Minimum traffic needed for Mediavine

man reading google analytics report on a laptop
Mediavine minimum traffic is 50 000 monthly sessions (specifically 50 000 sessions in the previous 30 days).

In order to be considered for Mediavine, its blog monetization criteria (or blog monetization eligibility) state that your website must have received 50K sessions in the previous 30 days (according to Google Analytics).

🤔 First, What is a session?

A session is a group of user interactions that takes place on your website within a specific time period.

One session can include multiple page views, events, and activities. A session ends after 30 minutes of inactivity.

Mediavine uses sessions as their metric rather than Mediavine minimum pageviews because it’s a better indicator of how an audience engages with a particular website (and said website’s earning potential).

⚠️ Mediavine Journey

Before we continue, I wanted to let you know about the program Mediavine launched in 2024 called Journey.

As 50,000 sessions isn’t easy to hit, especially after Google’s Helpful Content Update (which was anything but helpful for small publishers), Mediavine launched a program to help make monetizing your blog easier.

According to their site, Journey is and “ad management solution… for smaller publishers,” and you only need 10,000 sessions to apply.

To get started, you first need to have Mediavine Grow tool installed for 30 days. After that, you can apply for Mediavine Journey here.

2. Mediavine content requirements

To join an affiliate advertising program, you need to ensure that your blog posts are well-written, informative, and provide value to your readers.

Another requirement for Mediavine is high-quality content.

Reputation and integrity are the two main pillars of Mediavine, so they look for content creators who match their values.

📝 Type of Content that Gets You Accepted

During the Mediavine application process, your content will be scrutinized.

They want long-form, engaging, original content written for actual human readers in almost any niche.

Travel, food, finance, crafts, parenting, food, and fitness are only a few of the areas they are looking for.

🙅🏻‍♀️ Type of Content You Should Avoid

What they don’t want is content that is sketchy (ie. ¢rypto), off-putting to the general public (medicinal mariju@na), or adult-rated ($ex work).

When advertising through blogs, the advertisers they work with want their content to run alongside brand-safe content that uplifts their products, not something that would tarnish it.

They also don’t accept websites that exclusively contain roundup posts.

3. Country-specific traffic

Mediavine blog monetization requirements include country-specific traffic requirements.

Another thing to consider when it comes to Mediavine traffic requirements is where your users are coming from.

First, fifty percent or more of your traffic needs to come from Tier 1 Ad Countries. These include the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, and Canada.

Less than 20% of your traffic sources should come from a Tier 2 or Tier 3 ad country.

mediavine requirements

4. Be in good standing with Google AdSense

Since integrity and reputation are foundational to Mediavine, it’s crucial that the website of Mediavine publishers (that’s you) is in good standing with Google Adsense.

You must not have performed any black hat tactics, paid for non-human traffic, or gotten onto any blacklists.

3 Things to Keep In Mind When Applying to Mediavine

When submitting your Mediavine application, keep the following things in mind so you have a healthy perspective about the whole process.

1. You may get rejected

Between 75 and 100 websites are submitted to Mediavine for approval every day, but only a small percentage get in.

Mediavine’s stringent requirements are a big part of what makes the company so awesome if you do get in.

Take your time, do your research, and give yourself the best possible chance.

mediavine requirements

2. Exclusivity for display ads

If you are accepted into Mediavine, you must give the ad management company exclusive access.

Mediavine isn’t an ad network, so they operate differently. They list your website once across all the ad exchanges at one price.

That way, if advertisers want your premium demographic, that’s the price they’ll have to pay.

It makes your ad space more valuable. Your site can run fewer ads and make more money.

mediavine requirements

3. Requirements may change

Mediavine originally required a threshold of 25,000 monthly sessions, but that changed in September 2020.

It’s entirely possible that they may change their requirements again and implement new Mediavine requirements in order to continue to uphold their impressive standards.

How to Apply To Mediavine

Applying with G4 Analytics

blogger working on her blog
Ensure that your website meets Mediavine’s traffic threshold before applying.

In order to apply to Mediavine, you must send them a report of how many sessions your site has received in the last 30 days.

GA4 offers the same information as UA, but the information is in a different spot.

🤔 where to find GA4 Google Analytics

To find it, simply toggle open the Event Count metric in Google Analytics 4 and select Sessions from the menu. Remember to adjust the date range to 30 days.

Note that GA4 offers two different metrics for sessions: Sessions and Engaged Sessions. For Mediavine, use the Sessions metric.

Eventually, you’ll have to give them readable Google Analytics access so they can verify it.

Getting More Traffic To Qualify for Mediavine

keyword research graphics
Mediavine prefers websites that have organic traffic from search engines and social media platforms.

If you don’t meet the Mediavine sessions requirement, it’s time to focus on getting more traffic.

One of the best ways to do this is to concentrate on SEO (Search Engine Optimization).

SEO is all about writing your content in a way that will give it the best chance of ranking on the first page of Google.

It involves keyword research, updating old blog posts, finding hidden keywords, adding fresh images, and using videos.

Growing your Domain Authority through backlinks is another excellent way to increase your Google rankings and bring in more organic traffic.

4 Best Mediavine Alternatives

If you don’t yet qualify for Mediavine but still want to monetize your blog, consider joining one of the following ads for publisher networks.

1. Raptive (Formally AdThrive)

CafeMedia and AdThrive are now, Raptive, a new kind of creator company.

Adthrive requirements include a minimum of 100,000 monthly pageviews as per Google Analytics.

The majority of your traffic needs to come from Tier 1 ad countries, your content needs to be unique, original, and engaging and your websites should have an SSL certificate.

In terms of Adthrive vs Mediavine, there is no clear winner here. You’ll have to take the time to research each network to see which one fits your needs best.

Note: I have not personally used AdThrive/Raptive.

mediavine requirements

2. Monumetric

You can join if you have at least 10,000 views (specifically monthly pageviews) per Google Analytics. You must also have a WordPress or blogger site with a 300-pixel-wide sidebar.

You must place ads on blog posts with a minimum of 6 ad slots on mobile and desktop, and your site must be approved by major ad providers.

There is a $99 setup fee and a 30-day notice period when you leave their network.

You’ll also need at least 50% of your traffic to come from Tier-1 ad countries.

Note: I have not personally used Monumetric.

3. SheMedia

SHE Media is another alternate ad network to consider applying for. To qualify, you must have at least 20,000 or more page views per month.

You must also be willing to enter into an exclusive one-year-long contract.

In terms of traffic, you’ll need at least 80% US-based traffic and at least 70% female traffic.

Your website must be at least three months old, brand-safe, and regularly updated.

🤑 How much I made on SHE Media: About $800 USD per month with 30,000 monthly page views and mostly U.S. traffic (U.S. traffic pays the most).

mediavine requirements

4. Ezoic

IMO, Ezoic is not a wonderful choice — but it is a way to earn a bit of money from ads as long as you don’t expect much in terms of customer service.

When I was on the platform, I made about $185 a month with 10,000 monthly pageviews (and mostly US traffic).

The ads are likely to slow down your site, and the customer service isn’t great, but in terms of Ezoic requirements, there is no notice period to leave the platform.

Considering Mediavine vs Ezoic? Mediavine is a clear winner, but if you need the income, it could still be worth trying out.

🤑 How much I made on Ezoic: About $185 USD per month with 10,000 monthly page views and mostly U.S. traffic (U.S. traffic pays the most).

Mediavine Requirements: Frequently Asked Questions

How long does Mediavine approval take?

Wondering how long getting into Mediavine can take? There’s no hard and fast rule.

Mediavine reviews standards include a minimum of two people reviewing your application to see if your website meets its high standards.

If your website meets internal approval, Mediavine will send the site to Mediavine brands partners for review.

In general, this process usually takes between two and three weeks, but could take up to 28 days if there is a high volume of applicants.

From my personal experience, all my sites that are on Mediavine (I have four blogs on Mediavine) were approved in about 10 days to two weeks.

How much money can I make with Mediavine?

How much you can bring in from Mediavine ad revenue will vary depending on your niche, the geographical location of your audience, and how diverse your audience is.

When it comes to how much can you make with Mediavine, your site layout will also affect your earnings, but most Mediavine bloggers earn Mediavine payments of more than $2,000 per month.

  • Lily of the Imperfect Idealist reported making between $1,000 and $3,000 dollars per month in 2022.
  • Casey Botticello of Blogging Guide reported making $528 in Mediavine earnings during his first two weeks.
  • My first payout from Mediavine was $4,386, and at that time, my site was averaging about 100,000 monthly page views.
mediavine requirements

How much does Mediavine pay per 1,000 views?

The average Mediavine RPM ranges a lot — and while some sites see on average $12 to $30 per 1,000 views, others can see $45 to $65 per 1,000 views.

Your RPM (revenue per thousand impressions) will vary depending on your site speed, site layout, your niche, and the average amount of time visitors spend on your site.

In her Mediavine income reports, Lily of the Imperfect Idealist said she was making an average RPM (Revenue per Mille) of $40.31 by the end of 2022.

For me, I see about $35 RPMs in Q1 of the year, when RPMs are typically lowest.

By Q4, I see about $75 PRMs, as they’re usually the highest during Q4 (which is October, November and December).

mediavine requirements

What percentage does Mediavine take?

The Mediavine revenue share is 25%, while 75% goes to the publishers (you).

This is on ads where Mediavine takes on the expense of the ad server.

They also offer a MVP Loyalty Bonus, so after one year, the normal rev share will increase to 76%.

It also goes up 1% more per year, until your fifth year with Mediavine.

If your site has 5 million ad impressions over a 30-day period, your ad share can increase to 80%.

mediavine requirements

Is Mediavine better than AdSense?

When it comes to Mediavine vs Adsense, Mediavine is in a whole different league.

Because Mediavine is so hard to get into, it offers higher quality service, premium ads, and far better earnings — even compared to Google Adsense Premium.

The Adsense Google publisher network doesn’t usually pay well. It has poor quality service and slows down websites.

Since almost anyone can get in, advertisers won’t pay as much to advertise through it even if you’re on the premium publisher Adsense network.

Final Thoughts: Mediavine Requirements

Make sure to use Mediavine in partnership with other income-generating strategies, like creating a Pinterest account, learning about affiliate marketing, and joining the Amazon LLC Associates Program.

The Mediavine Publisher Network is a competitive ad management company with stringent application requirements, premium service, and rock-solid values.

It is an advertising program designed to optimize ad placements on your blog, enhancing viewer experience and maximizing your revenue.

They offer the best user experience, a comprehensive Mediavine dashboard, and some of the highest possible blog advertising revenue in the industry.

⚠️ Be aware, however, that the Mediavine payment method is Net65, which means you’ll receive your payment 65 days after the end of the month in which you earned it.

Although Mediavine’s high standards make getting accepted a hurdle, it’s also what makes them so stellar to work with.

When asked, Is Mediavine legit? I have to say it’s a resounding Yes! I think they’re one of the best ad publishers, and I’m not the only one with that opinion.

But remember to carefully review all of the Mediavine requirements before applying to give yourself the best shot at success.
